Reaching out with the Gospel of Jesus Christ to disciple South Sudanese refugees and other communities.
We have been meeting as a small group since 2004 in different church buildings with the intent to reach out with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and disciple South Sudanese refugees and other communities in the Portland and SW Washington area. The South Sudanese in particular have a unique experience of suffering due to civil wars and cultural divides among themselves which make it hard to bring peace and unity here and back in South Sudan. Many may profess to be Christians but truly not well grounded in the faith.
The first generation South Sudanese refugees in particular face challenges with language and cultural differences making it difficult to integrate into the main American churches. It would be great to have a place where they could worship in their own language and also feel connected. We believe that the Gospel is the only solution to conflicts and poverty that has ravaged South Sudanese people back home and in the diaspora. Now, the group has become a church plant under the Free Methodist Church USA.
